We are thrilled to announce our plans to open a permanent location for an international beachcombing collection on the Chesapeake Bay in spring 2020. The collection was founded as The Sea Glass Center in Maine in 2014. It is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to education about worldwide shoreline finds as well as to raising awareness about coastal erosion and marine debris.

International pieces, as well as local collections from the Chesapeake Bay, including indigenous tribal artifacts, shark teeth and fossils, seashells, and shipwreck finds, will be rotated in special exhibits that will change in monthly and seasonal exhibits. The center will also feature a donation made by former first lady Barbara Bush, as well as a sample collection from the world-renowned collection of Nellie Myrtle Pritchard from the beachcombing museum in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Our location will be close to the Eastern Shore Sea Glass Festival in St. Michaels, Maryland, the largest annual national festival, drawing over 10,000 enthusiastic beachcombers annually to the area, which takes place at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, as well as the Tilghman Watermen's Museum and other regional coastal heritage and tourism attractions.

In addition to the permanent and rotating museum collections we will offer an ocean arts retail shop that will feature artisans who create art using gifts from the sea.

Please join us in raising funds to open our building by making a donation here to our fundraiser. The building needs interior and exterior renovations as well as a number of educational display cases and other exhibit materials. All donations are tax-deductible.
